China Communications Construction Road & Bridge Youth Vanguard Team: Forging a Steely Will through Youthful Struggle, Breaking New Ground and Painting the Silk Road with Vigor

Between the tropical jungles and bustling cities of the Malay Peninsula, a steel dragon is stretching out. This is the Malaysia East Coast Railway project under construction, a flagship project of the Belt and Road Initiative cooperation between China and Malaysia. In July this year, the project reached a critical juncture for a final push.
Among the project's sections, the 9th section, which is 53.49 kilometers long and constructed by China Communications Construction Road & Bridge Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as China Communications Construction Road & Bridge), passes through the heart of the Selangor Economic Corridor (Note: a key economic area in Malaysia with multiple key industrial zones), holding significant economic importance.
At the construction site of China Communications Construction Road & Bridge's 9th section, the roar of machinery blends with the chirping of cicadas in the tropical rainforest. The section features complex geological conditions and a high density of pipeline relocations, making it a crucial bottleneck in the entire project. "The organizational difficulty is comparable to a precise surgical operation, and the safety requirements are as meticulous as millimeter-level ballet," said Zhu Zhengwei, the project manager.

In 2023, the project team formed a Youth Pioneering Team, adopting a "sharp attack, key breakthrough" tactical approach, concentrating their elite forces on the most challenging tunnels, the most risky relocations, and the most critical nodes. This team, with an average age of less than 35, has built a "Great Wall of Youth" on the construction front.
As a key project of the Malaysia East Coast Railway, the construction of the 2A tunnel is extremely difficult. The tunnel is approximately 208 meters long and mainly composed of fully weathered mudstone and sandy clay. Due to the complex underground pipelines and heavy ground traffic loads, any minor mistake during construction could lead to serious safety accidents.
Led by Guo Xiaohang, the captain of the Youth Pioneering Team, the team members rose to the challenge and innovatively adopted a full-domain dynamic control method for tunnel pre-reinforcement, equipping the tunnel construction with a millimeter-level navigation system. Through 24-hour all-dimensional monitoring, they established a neural network for underground engineering, opening up a safe passage in the underground maze filled with pipelines.

In July 2025, the China Communications Construction Road & Bridge Youth Pioneering Team faced another tough battle. This time, they were tasked with the largest and most challenging water pipeline relocation in the entire project - two main water supply lines with a diameter of 2 meters and a total length of over 400 meters, which are crucial for the daily water supply of the core urban area of Kuala Lumpur. The task was not only spatially confined and operationally difficult but also required continuous water supply without interruption throughout the process. Any mistake could lead to a large-scale water outage, making the task urgent and the responsibility significant.
Ding Xiancheng, a key member of the team's external liaison group, volunteered to take charge of on-site coordination. He led multiple in-depth communications, negotiated relocation plans with the general manager's office, and repeatedly coordinated technical details with the local water authority, optimizing the construction window. Eventually, they settled on a meticulous plan of "nighttime water supply switch without interruption + segmented pre-burial and connection". To ensure the plan's flawless execution, Ding Xiancheng stayed up all night on site, coordinating the simultaneous operations of all parties. By mid-July, the relocation was successfully completed without a single water supply incident. (Hu Yu, Yang Baoguang)
